Obey the King (Matthew 21:28-32)
In Matthew 21:28–32, Jesus tells the parable of two sons in response to the chief priests who questioned His authority. One son said he would not obey, but later regretted it and went. The other son said the right words, but did not obey. Jesus uses the parable to expose the difference between outward declarations and true obedience.
This sermon examines outward declarations, internal devotion, and true obedience. Religious words may impress people, but they cannot substitute for submission to God. The chief priests looked righteous, but they rejected John’s preaching and ultimately rejected the authority of Christ.
The call of the passage is clear: obey the King. True obedience is not perfect appearance hiding a rebellious heart, but humble submission to Christ that bears fruit in faithful action.
