When the Threats of this World Shake Us, 1 Kings 19
After revival on Mount Carmel came fear, threats, and discouragement. In 1 Kings 19, Elijah fled from Jezebel and momentarily lost sight of the God whose power he had just witnessed.
This message reminds us that the hostility of the world is real, but God remains sovereign, present, and faithful. When the threats of this world shake us, we must remember that God is bigger than our fears and greater than our perspective.
Forever Faithful, Genesis 11:10–32
Genesis 11:10–32 records the genealogy from Shem to Abram, but this passage is far more than a list of names. It is a testimony that God is faithfully preserving His word and accomplishing His redemptive plan, even when the world is marked by rebellion, corruption, and idolatry.
This sermon encourages believers to trust the Lord’s faithfulness throughout history, despite man’s corruption, and according to His enduring word. God has been faithful, God is faithful, and God will forever be faithful.
The Deadly Pride of Man, Genesis 11:1-9
The Tower of Babel is more than a childhood story about a tall tower and confused languages. Genesis 11:1–9 reveals the deadly pride of man: the desire to make a name for ourselves, live apart from dependence on God, and assert our will over His.
In this sermon, Ben Smith, Sr. examines the pride of ability, the pride of self-sufficiency, and the pride of mastery, calling believers to reject the illusion of independence and humble themselves before the sovereign God.
God of All Nations, Genesis 10
Genesis 10 may seem like a chapter that can be passed over quickly, but it bears profound witness to the sovereignty of God. The nations of the earth are neither random nor outside His rule. Behind every family line, every people group, and every generation stands the God who created all things and governs history according to His will.
In “God of All Nations,” we are reminded that human power is fleeting, but God’s purposes never fail. The same God who governed the nations in Genesis is still accomplishing His redemptive will today, and in Christ He has made salvation known to people from every tribe, tongue, and nation.
The Faith that Saves, John 1:6-13
Salvation is not determined by man's worthiness but by God's authority. It is impossible for sinful man, blind in sin, to receive and believe on Jesus for salvation. But God, rich in mercy, grants with His power and authority, by grace alone, for sinners to receive and believe in faith on Jesus and to become children of God. From beginning to end, salvation is entirely the work of God—a truth that brings both humility and unshakable hope to all who trust in Christ.
The Nature of Man, Genesis 1:26-31
Man’s nature and purpose are not according to the autonomous will of man but determined, ordained, and commanded by the sovereignty of God. A biblical worldview affirms the sovereignty of God over all of creation, including man, but the world claims that each person has total autonomy, independent of any authority.
Genesis 1:26-31 testifies to the creation of man and man’s nature and purpose.
In the sermon from Genesis 1:26-31, Pastor Ben explains that God’s creation of man demands that you honor every human life as God’s image bearer, be a good steward of God’s creation, and submit to God’s authority to create and command.
God Created, Genesis 1
Genesis chapter one is the testimony of creation. By God's authority, out of His will, and according to His command, He created all things.
As with all of scripture, Genesis chapter one is a testimony of God that reveals His authority, will, and nature. It is not a story about men but a testimony to who God is and how He is working.
Genesis chapter one does not answer every detail you may wish were included. There are many questions about how God accomplished His work that are left unanswered. Not the least of which is how God created all that is from nothing. In His perfect providence, God has given us His word to declare that He is the author and creator of all things while leaving unanswered the mysteries that the mind of man cannot conceive.
Genesis chapter one is a foundational text for a Christian worldview and many of the most fundamental doctrines. From Genesis chapter one, Pastor Ben Smith preaches on how God's creation forms how Christians understand God and all that He has made.
