When the Threats of this World Shake Us (1 Kings 19)

The events of 1 Kings 19 follow one of the great spiritual victories of Scripture. On Mount Carmel, God demonstrated His power, exposed the emptiness of Baal worship, and turned the hearts of many back toward Himself. Yet revival was not met with universal rejoicing. Jezebel’s hostility and threats reveal a sobering reality: the world does not celebrate the work of God but often opposes it.

In this message from 1 Kings 19, we follow Elijah from triumph to fear. Though he had witnessed the fire of God and the defeat of false prophets, Elijah became overwhelmed by the threats of Jezebel and lost sight of the Lord’s power. Through Elijah’s weakness, God teaches us enduring truths about spiritual opposition, fear, and faith.

This sermon reminds believers that the hostility of the world is real but not ultimate. God remains sovereign over kings, nations, and circumstances. Whether He speaks through consuming fire, powerful winds, or a still small voice, His presence is constant, and His purposes never fail.

When the threats of this world shake us, we are called not to despair but to trust the God who is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
