Dwell in Safety (Psalm 4)
Psalm 4 is an evening psalm of trust in God. David is not facing only physical danger, but the pain of lies, slander, and attacks against his character. In the face of reproach and false accusation, David turns to the Lord and finds his worth, value, and peace in being known by God.
This sermon considers Psalm 4 through three movements: turn to the Lord, declare truth, and trust in God. David shows us that our hope cannot rest in the fickle opinions of men. The world may tell lies and believe lies, but God knows the truth perfectly and will not abandon His own.
Psalm 4 ends with peace: “In peace I will both lie down and sleep, for You alone, O LORD, make me to dwell in safety.” The believer can rest not because every enemy has been silenced, but because God hears, God sustains, and God keeps His people.
