The Way of the Righteous (Psalm 1)

Psalm 1 introduces the Psalter with a clear contrast between the righteous and the wicked. The world promises happiness through its counsel, its path, and its approval, but the more happiness is chased according to worldly wisdom, the more it eludes us.

This sermon considers the danger of worldly wisdom, the blessing of righteousness, and the certainty of true judgment. The righteous man does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, stand in the path of sinners, or sit in the seat of scoffers. Instead, his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on that law he meditates day and night.

The way of the wicked may appear safe, popular, and promising, but it will not stand before the judgment of God. The way of the righteous is rooted in the Word of God, nourished by the provision of God, and blessed with eternal fruitfulness in the presence of God.
