Salvation is received through grace alone and does not depend on personal effort. Yet the grace that saves also transforms the believer’s relationship to righteousness. Obedience cannot earn salvation, but it does testify to the new life Christ gives.

These truths provide comfort for believers whose struggle with remaining sin causes them to doubt, while also warning those whose profession of faith is unaccompanied by obedience or transformation. Biblical assurance rests in Christ’s finished work and is confirmed by His continuing work of sanctification.
