Seek First the Kingdom (Matthew 6:33)

Matthew 6 records Jesus’ teaching about anxiety and the divided heart. We worry about what we will eat, drink, wear, and provide, but these anxieties often reveal that our hearts have become consumed with temporal things. In Matthew 6:33, Jesus gives the corrective command: “Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness.”

This sermon considers what it means to seek the kingdom first, pursue God’s righteousness, and trust God’s provision. Jesus is not calling His people to neglect real responsibilities, but to reorder their lives under the rule and priority of God’s kingdom.

The Christian life is not to be driven by worry, self-protection, or the pursuit of earthly kingdoms. God’s people are called to trust the Father, seek His righteousness, and rest in the sureness of His Word.
