John the evangelist continues his gospel prologue by declaring the most wonderful words ever spoken: "The Word became flesh and dwelt among us." This sermon unfolds three essential elements of salvation that depend on the Word becoming flesh:

The Word became flesh to reveal God's glory (vv. 14-15).
The sermon explores how Jesus's incarnation reveals the glory of God through His presence and truth. This section examines how the eternal God came in the flesh to dwell with sinful man, making the invisible God visible. It addresses how familiarity with the Christmas story can breed contempt and challenges believers to behold afresh the radiant beauty of God's glory in Christ.

The Word became flesh to show God's grace (vv. 16-17).
This section reveals how Jesus fulfills the law and transforms sinners to righteousness.
