Do not be distracted by the worthless things of this world. Behold God’s glory and marvel in His Greatness

Do not be distracted from God’s glory (Sermon Short)
Ben Smith

From the sermon, Worship the Lord, 1 Chronicles 16:28–34

In 1 Chronicles 16:28–34, David calls the people of God to ascribe to the Lord the glory due His name. Worship is not casual observation, religious routine, or sentimental feeling. It is the heart rightly turned toward the Lord, beholding His glory, marveling at His majesty, and trembling before His greatness.

In this sermon short, Pastor Ben Smith uses the striking image of whale watchers missing a once-in-a-lifetime moment because they were looking in the wrong direction. The illustration points to a spiritual danger: worship falters when our hearts turn aside and become distracted by the worthless idols of this world.

The message calls listeners to turn around. Some distractions must be put down. Some idols must be thrown away. But the call is clear: turn your attention away from the things of this world and turn your heart toward the Lord.

When we behold His glory, we do not merely recover the idea of worship; we are drawn again into worship. The Lord is worthy of all glory, honor, reverence, and praise from everlasting to everlasting.
