The blessing of depending on the Good Shepherd

Welcome to Ponderings. In this episode, I read “Are they really that dumb? Rethinking how we describe sheep,” a reflection on the way we speak about sheep and the people of God.

The Bible’s sheep-and-shepherd imagery directs our attention to a relationship. Drawing on Micah 5:4–5, Isaiah 53:5–6, and John 10, this article considers the blessing of depending on Christ for His protection, provision, and peace. The Good Shepherd knows His sheep and willingly lays down His life for them.

Ponderings with Ben Smith, Sr.: Are they really that dumb? Rethinking how we describe sheep, above an open notebook, fountain pen, and coffee on a quiet desk.

Sheep are dependent on the shepherd. It is good and glorious to be under the watchful care of the Good Shepherd.

Scripture in this reflection

Micah 5:4–5; Isaiah 53:5–6; John 10.
